How to Select Healthy Sperm?
After the last #DrWuExplains post sharing five methods for sperm selection, many people asked how the Yun-I laboratory selects healthy sperm.

- A normal sperm is divided into three parts: the head, neck, and tail.
- The acrosome, located in the head, is an important structure that allows sperm to fertilize the egg.
- In addition to sperm, semen also contains cell fragments, blood cells, and other components. These need to be cleaned before use.
- The first step of sperm washing: gradient centrifugation.
Using sperm washing solutions of different densities, the semen is centrifuged. After centrifugation, a group of healthy sperm without cell fragments or blood cells can be collected at the bottom of the test tube. - The second step: the swim-up method.
The healthy sperm collected after gradient centrifugation are mixed with culture medium, allowing the sperm with the best motility to swim upward to the surface, where they are then collected. - These sperm are high-quality sperm with the best motility and can be used for in vitro fertilization or microinjection.
