Choose a “Good-Quality Embryo” — One at a Time, Without Compromising Pregnancy Rates!

Since July 1 of last year, the Health Promotion Administration has expanded subsidies for IVF treatment. In just a few months, more than 23,000 people applied, making it a policy that has truly made an impact.
Although this subsidy no longer excludes higher-income applicants, it does place limits on the number of embryos transferred during treatment. For women under 35, only one embryo may be transferred at a time.
Some applicants worry whether this may affect the pregnancy success rate. Some even consider giving up the subsidy in order to transfer multiple embryos.
Doctors explain that embryo culture technology has advanced significantly in recent years compared with the past. With careful selection of high-quality embryos, transferring one “good” embryo at a time shows no difference in pregnancy rate compared with transferring two “good” embryos at once.
In addition, transferring multiple embryos may increase the chance of multiple pregnancy, which can raise the risk of premature birth and related risks for both mother and baby.
